Question 1

My flight from Doha was cancelled. Do I get a refund or a new flight?

Accepted Answer

If the airline cancels, expect one of three outcomes: another scheduled flight, a re-route, or a refund. On EU departures the choice between refund and re-routing is yours under EU261; for Doha departures, ask for the refund or rebooking option you want in writing rather than accepting a voucher by default.

Question 2

How long does a Qatar Airways refund take?

Accepted Answer

For EU departures the rule is a refund within 7 days. For other departures the timing follows your fare rules and payment method, so ask the airline for the expected timeline in writing when you request it.

Question 3

I cancelled my own ticket. What do I get back?

Accepted Answer

A voluntary refund is the fare paid less service charges if no part of the ticket was used. If part was used, it is the difference between the fare paid and the fare for the transport used, less service charges. The exact amount depends on the fare rules shown at booking, so check those before you cancel.

Question 4

What happens if I change my flight less than 3 hours before departure?

Accepted Answer

Under Qatar Airways' current flexibility offer (bookings 1 October 2026 to 31 January 2027), a change or cancellation less than 3 hours before departure counts as a no-show, and no-show fare rules apply. Outside that offer, your fare rules at booking govern, so check them before you act.

Question 5

I missed my connection because my first flight was delayed. What now?

Accepted Answer

If both flights are on one booking, the airline must rebook you to your final destination or refund you. Separate tickets do not carry the same protection.

Question 6

Does EU261 apply to flights from Doha?

Accepted Answer

Not on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha, but yes in one case: EU261 also covers a flight from a non-EU country into the EU when an EU airline operates it. So a Doha-to-EU flight operated by an EU airline is covered, while the same route on Qatar Airways is not. For Doha departures on Qatar Airways, the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority framework applies instead.

Question 7

How much compensation can I claim for a cancelled flight?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your departure point and the cause. Extraordinary circumstances such as bad weather remove compensation, while the refund or rebooking choice and care still apply. No fixed Doha scale is published by the airline, so do not trust percentage tables from claims firms.

Question 8

What if airspace closes and my flight is cancelled?

Accepted Answer

Expect major disruption, not a normal schedule. In the June 2026 precedent, 566 Doha flights were cancelled or heavily delayed within 24 hours, regular operations paused, and limited relief flights ran via Muscat and Riyadh for rebooked passengers only, with hotel support reported. Do not go to the airport without a confirmed seat.

Question 9

Can I cancel free within 24 hours of booking?

Accepted Answer

Only for flights to or from the United States, booked at least 7 days before departure. That US rule does not cover other routes.

Question 10

How can I check whether my ticket is refundable?

Accepted Answer

Read the fare rules shown at booking, or check your booking in Manage Booking on the Qatar Airways website or app. The fare rules at booking govern.
