Unified radar network for detection of violations
The Qatar government is using advanced technology like a unified radar system to detect Violations.
The General Directorate of Traffic has installed patrol vehicles fitted with cameras on Qatar’s roads to enhance road safety. With advanced sensors on them, these cars can spot traffic violations using very efficient sensors.
The sensors can record violations while monitoring up to six tracks on roads. The live data is transferred to the National Command Centre. These new vehicles have been brought in as part of the initiatives of the General Directorate of Traffic to reduce road accidents and prevent violations. Most of the roads in Qatar are monitored either through cameras installed as part of the Tala’a project or through mobile cameras.
The public roads are also covered by plainclothes officers who patrol to ensure their compliance with the laws on traffic. The Traffic Department is enforcing this regulation towards the reduction of accidents and ensuring the well-being of all road users.
The new radar devices can detect the offenses above, as well as speeding infractions.
- There will be no discount on the fine of QR 500 for not wearing a seatbelt, but one can have a discount if the violator pays the fine within 30 days.
- On the other hand, using a mobile phone while driving will incur a QR 500 fine and cannot be subject to discounting.
- The same fine applies if a child under 10 years old is permitted to sit in a driving seat.
